The Monash Law Students’ Society Client Interview Competition provides the opportunity to apply and develop your legal skills in a practical environment. The abilities that will be tested during this competition include effective and efficient communication with a client, decision-making whilst under pressure and teamwork. These skills can only be acquired through practice, making competitions like Client Interview an integral part of your legal education.
The Client Interview competition requires competitors to form a team of two. These two competitors are ‘the solicitors’. The solicitors have the task of interviewing an unknown ‘client’ in order to ascertain the legal issues surrounding the client’s circumstances, and to support and advise them of further action.
The competitors must also provide a 3rd party (‘a client’). To promote fairness, another team, in a separate match-up, will interview the supplied client.
The competition requires little legal knowledge and preparation, the focus of assessment is instead placed on interview skills, quick thinking, teamwork and client interaction.
We hope that the competition will prove to be an entertaining and worthwhile experience for all participants.
