The People of Colour (POC) Office supports students of colour and those from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds as they navigate law school and professional pathways. Our mission is to empower students, address structural barriers, and foster an inclusive law school environment that promotes belonging and equity.
Through this portfolio, the POC Office works to build a connected community, promote student wellbeing, and contribute to a more supportive, inclusive, and equitable law school environment.

Cultural Diversity and Networking Night – Tuesday, 21st April
As our flagship event, this night connects POC students with legal professionals and organisations. It provides meaningful networking opportunities, and panel discussions of structural barriers that students of colour often face in the legal profession, and the strength and unique value that POC lawyers bring to the profession.
The Taste the World Dinner, Thursday, 21st May
This dinner aims to build camaraderie and cultural appreciation by bringing students together through shared food experiences of the selected cuisine, enabling us to slowly but surely taste the world.
The event creates an inclusive social space that celebrates diversity, encourages cross-cultural connection, and strengthens community within the LSS.
The POC Panel – Thursday, 27th August
If you missed out on our Cultural Diversity and Networking Night, come and join us instead for our second panel of the year! This brings together POC students and lawyers across all levels of experience to provide practical guidance on navigating law school, clerkships, wellbeing, and identity as a student of colour.
This initiative has a unique focus on mental health and social life, seeking to reduce stigma around imposter syndrome and mental health, while empowering students with strategies for academic and professional confidence.
A Seat at the Bar – Thursday, 3rd September
Our collaboration with the Queer Office through A Seat at the Bar reflects the POC Office’s commitment to intersectional experiences and advocacy, and collective approaches to social justice. By working across portfolios, we aim to ensure that students with intersecting identities feel supported, represented, and included within the law school community.
Join us at a magical bar for some very special cocktails and fun socialising with fellow LGBTQI+ and POC students!
Our Office also hosts more casual social events, to help connect students in a more relaxed environment.
POC Picnic – Sunday, 15th March
Eager to meet some new friends before the semester gets hectic, or want a bit of breather mid-trimester? Rock up to our POC Picnic, a new event to capture all the whimsy and joy of meeting new people over delicious snacks in a gorgeous garden!
We will have a selection of snacks and refreshments from different regions, to share the joy of nostalgic favourites or experiencing new flavours.
Chai and Chats – Tuesday, 24th March and 22nd September
These events are designed to help incoming and current students build friendships, reduce isolation, and form supportive networks across year levels in relaxed, low-pressure settings. A strong focus is placed on wellbeing, transition into law school, and fostering a sense of cultural belonging.
Movie Night – Wednesday, 19th August
Whether you’re a cinephile, or someone eager to watch a new movie or old favourite, come along to another one of our new events for this year! Meet some new faces, grab some snacks, and experience the joy of cinema!
This night is designed to create inclusive social spaces that celebrate cultural diversity, increase the visibility of POC voices, and strengthen engagement within the Law Students’ Society.
