As Queer Officers for 2026, our goal is to cultivate a welcoming and dynamic space where LGBTQIA+ law students feel a genuine sense of belonging and can envision a future for themselves within the legal profession. This year, our programming focuses on three main areas: professional development, intersectional celebration, and fostering meaningful relationships.
All of our events are designed to be welcoming and accessible to everyone. We strongly recognise the importance of allies in amplifying queer voices and challenging the obstacles that queer students continue to face within the legal profession. We are also thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with the Melbourne University Law Students’ Society to enhance support and connection amongst queer law students.
Join us this year for some wonderful events!

Professional Panel & Networking Night – Thursday 7 May
Delivered in collaboration with Melbourne University, this event brings together queer legal practitioners and students for a professional panel followed by relaxed networking, giving students the chance to hear real experiences and form meaningful professional connections.
Queer Connections: Opening Night – Thursday 13 August
This year marks the launch of Queer Connections, a new mentorship program linking students with queer legal professionals engaged in community-focused work. The program responds directly to student interest in longer-term mentorship from people who understand the realities of LGBTQIA+ legal practice, particularly for those drawn to public interest and community-based careers.
Queer x POC: A Seat at the Bar – Thursday, 3 September
We are proud to partner with the People of Colour (POC) Office on “A Seat at the Bar”, an upbeat social evening dedicated to amplifying the voices of students who sit at the intersection of queer and POC identities, while encouraging solidarity across our communities.
Queer Mixer & Trivia – Wednesday, 16 September
We close the academic year with the Queer Mixer, again in partnership with Melbourne University. This event is a chance to unwind and celebrate together, build friendships, and reinforce the networks that support students both during their studies and into their professional lives.
We look forward to seeing you throughout the year!
